What Makes Lectio Bible Studies Unique
Listen to Dr. Gray explain the power of the Lectio Study Guides as outlined below.
The Augustine Institute Lectio Bible Study Series is a uniquely Catholic Bible Study. Here are 10 things which differentiate the Augustine Institute’s Lectio Bible Studies.

1. Lectio Divina
The steps of Lectio Divina are taught and interwoven in all the Lectio Bible Studies. Through praying the Scriptures, hearing and meditating on the Word of God, the Bible becomes a personal prayer!
2. Old and New Testament
Both the Old and New Testaments are studied and brought together, making connections that help understand the revelation and prophecy of salvation history.
3. Scripture and Tradition
Writings from our early church fathers, early church documents, and Doctors of the Church bring a symphony of teachers that synthesize Scripture and Tradition.
4. Sacred Art
In each session, beautiful sacred art highlights the Word of God, helping you meditate and pray on Scripture in full color.
5. Magisterium
Quotes from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, papal documents, Vatican II, meditations and encyclicals from the Popes throughout the sessions aid in understanding the Church’s Magisterium in light of Scripture.
6. Saints
Quotes and teachings from the saints help us delve deeper into understanding Scripture in the way the saints do.
7. The Liturgy
Prayers of the Liturgy, such as St. Thomas Aquinas’ prayers for Corpus Christi Mass, are brought into the study, to deepen our understanding of the unity of the Mass and Scripture.
8. Contemporary Scholarship
Lectio Bible studies include input from Augustine Institute scholars’ presentations, talks and research. Additionally, offered are interpretations of Hebrew and Greek texts, as well as historical findings from the Dead Sea Scrolls.
9. High Quality Video
Augustine Studios, a full professional videography team, incorporate images and videos from the Holy Land, Sacred Art and other sources. The video segments are integrated the series in a dynamic and beautiful way.
10. Study Guides
These don’t just replicate the videos, but rather supplement and allow you to go deeper. In addition to the outline of each video presentation, each session has discussion questions, prayers and quotes. Lectio Bible Studies all include five days of home study to do over the course of the week, allowing you to continue your study and meditation throughout the week.

One Parish Under God
For the first time ever, bilingual parishes have a unique opportunity to offer original bible studies to reach EVERYONE in their parish in their native language. Based on Lectio Mark: Faith Not Fear by Dr. Tim Gray, Lectio San Marco: La Fe Vence El Miedo by Luis Soto is the first study to be done entirely in Spanish. Parishes can offer both studies simultaneously so that all in the parish community are learning scripture and growing in faith.
We recommend starting the series and ending the series with a combined meeting of both the English and Spanish study groups. Add coffee and dessert or a pot luck meal and encourage everyone to mingle! If you’ve ever felt like there are two separate populations in your parish, now is the time to bring everyone together, to study God’s word in One Parish Under God.
